At the end of year twelve we were given a task to complete. This was a remake of thrift shop by Macklemore. Each group was given a time code and during that time we needed to complete certain shots. For my group it was 0-40 seconds. For our planning we were given up to three lessons in which my partner and I created a storyboard of what we wanted in every few seconds of the shots. If i could do this again I would spend more time on doing something different with each shot rather than filling all the spaces up. We watched Macklemore's video to thrift shop as an idea for our remake. We tried to do something similar to the original video. During this i got better at planning thing and not relying on my partner. Which during our BSR task i did a lot.
Digital technology.
My editing improved a lot during the last week of year twelve. During the year I was using iMovie which was not as precise and i struggled to use. However, we were introduced to Final cut. Which was a lot more precise and easier to use. The screengrabs below show the first image which was using iMovie and the second using Final cut. I used Final cut for the first time and I believe I improved with this as well. In future,I will be using final cut and not iMovie as it was easier. I learnt how to fit the song with the miming as well , so using final cut made it more precise. The hardware we used was something that I was used too. The camera, memory cards and macs. I got better at holding the camera as before I used to be very shaky with the camera. As you can see in the image below it is more precise. And also looks more professional.
Conventions for AS.
The camera shots and angles had to be similar to the ones in the original video. We did not have enough time and enough money to create the same professional shots however, I believe we still achieved a similar look to the music video. The editing we made sure was precise so every shot lasted the same time as the shots in the music video which ranged from o:1 to 0:6 seconds. We did not need to make a narrative as we were mimicking the original video. As the title is thrift shop we decided to use very casual clothes , nothing that looks flashy and expensive. There was no themes in the music video besides from it being very chilled out. I learnt a lot about music videos whilst doing this. A lot of work has to go in just four doing only forty seconds of work.
Creativity.
Not much creativity was displayed within the remake of thrift shop. However, we tried doing some things different as being creative is staying within the boundaries and rules but also we used inspiration from the music video itself. For example in the music video Macklemore is with two females, however, we decided to change this and use a female leader as the singer and two males next to her. We also were creative in a way as we did not have a scooter in which we displayed in the original video so we worked around this and we used a bin instead. This was creative and quite funny which we were intending on doing.
Post Production.
Post production was a very important aspect in our work. We had to make sure every shot was cut precisely to the beat and also matched what we saw in the original music video. We had to make this as professional as possible. We did not need to much during our post production it was just the editing we had to do and thankfully we were using final cut which made things precise. Such as in the music video when the car drives past we mimicked the exact same thing and it looked the same and was cut at the same time code which again made it seem more professional.
